Evidence-based school counseling demonstrates how school counselors impact student success and achievement. This course will cover the basic elements of an evidence-based practice within the field of school counseling including gathering and using data, creating surveys, applying research in the field to school counselors' work in the schools, and conducting intervention and program evaluations.
Each of these elements will be discussed within the framework of how an evidence-based practice allows school counselors to be partners and collaborators in school improvement, to create systemic change in their building, and to serve as leaders within their school.
This course will focus on how an evidence-based approach to school counseling ultimately gives school counselors the tools to become powerful advocates for children, working to ensure equity and access to quality education for all students. Each class topic will be explored through lecture, in-class participation, and small group activity in order to link theory to implications for practice.
